Ilhan Omar, the Muslim congresswoman from Minnesota, has seen her net worth increase from a negligible amount to as much as $30 million today. Naturally, eyebrows have been raised, especially since she is a Somali from Minneapolis, where eighty-six Somalis have already been convicted of massive fraud, involving state money that was supposed to be spent on welfare benefits, but instead ended up in the hands of Somali fraudsters, whose fraud is believed to have cost the state a total of $9 billion. Some of that money was sent back to Somalia, to finance the terror group Al Shabaab.
Now Omar’s fellow members in Congress are investigating her, that is, the members of the Oversight Committee that Republican James Comer heads. Once its investigation is completed, the world may discover just how she came into possession of such a fortune. A House Republican investigation into Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar has been launched after newly filed financial disclosures showed her family’s reported wealth exploding to more than $30 million in a single year.
The House Oversight Committee, led by Chairman James Comer, is examining how the ‘Squad’ lawmaker and her husband rapidly amassed millions – at a time that a $9 billion Somali social services fraud scandal also exploded in her state.
Investigators are openly weighing subpoenas as they probe whether politically connected businesses tied to Omar’s family warrant deeper scrutiny, House Republicans said.
The investigation follows federal prosecutors opening a broader investigation into alleged industrial-scale fraud involving billions of dollars in social service funds in Minnesota.
Republicans say that scandal alone makes Omar’s apparent financial windfall impossible to ignore.
Several members of Omar’s inner circle have been convicted of taking part in a $250 million COVID fraud scheme, that was enabled through the MEALS Act that Omar managed to get Congress to pass. Her former campaign staffer, Guhaad Hashi Said, pled guilty to running a fake food site that claimed to serve 5,000 meals a day to children, but stole millions instead.
Omar held her 2018 victory party at the Safari Restaurant, which her friend, Salim Ahmed Said, owns. Said was subsequently convicted of fraud. He spent some of the money he stole on a $2 million mansion and on shopping sprees at high-end stores such as Nordstrom.
Thanks to James Comer and his fellow Republicans on the Oversight Committee, Ilhan Omar’s excellent financial adventure could very well be exposed to the world. There will be subpoenas. She may be forced to testify under oath. So may her husband, Tim Mynett. And she may then be exposed as the most prominent Somali fraudster of them all.
