Washington Examiner senior writer Joe Concha applauded President Donald Trump’s effort to “lower the cost of everything in terms of energy.”
Concha appeared on Fox News’s Kudlow Wednesday, hours after the United States European Command announced it had seized the Bella 1, a sanctioned oil tanker it has been pursuing since December. This followed the U.S. capture of former Venezuelan dictator Nicolas Maduro and his wife, Cilia Flores, which resulted in the U.S. selling Venezuelan oil “indefinitely,” according to Energy Secretary Chris Wright.
HOW TRUMP’S OIL TANKER SEIZURES FIT IN THE US-VENEZUELA STRATEGY
According to Concha, the president wants to lower energy costs, and one result of this was the U.S. capturing Maduro. Concha interviewed Trump for his book, The Greatest Comeback Ever, where he asked the president how he could lower the cost of cheeseburgers — Concha’s son’s favorite food.
“Trump didn’t even hesitate after he chuckled a little bit. He said, ‘Energy is the whole ballgame. If you lower the cost of everything in terms of energy, then that gets passed on to the consumer eventually,’” Concha said.
“The Soviets knew it was coming, because that’s what ultimately brought them down. Not bullets, their economy collapsed because A, they tried to build another Star Wars and B, communism doesn’t work.”
With Venezuela missing its leader, even though there is the acting Venezuelan President Delcy Rodriguez, this represents the last communist government in the Western Hemisphere. Cuba remains a nearby communist country, but Secretary of State Marco Rubio suggested the nation could be “in a lot of trouble,” following the operation in Venezuela.
WHAT OIL COMPANIES NEED TO FULFILL TRUMP CALL TO REVITALIZE VENEZUELA’S INDUSTRY
Cuba was heavily involved in Venezuela, as the security team surrounding Maduro was “entirely controlled by Cubans,” according to Secretary of State Marco Rubio, because the former dictator “had Cuban bodyguards.” At least 24 members of this team were killed during the U.S. mission to capture Maduro, according to the Associated Press.
Trump announced on Wednesday that Venezuela will exclusively purchase U.S. products with money generated from an oil deal with the new Rodriguez government.
