Minnesota Somalis Pay $670 in Taxes, Have $10,000 Fraud Burden

After President Trump blasted Minnesota’s Somali billion dollar fraud machine (a scandal that emerged based in part on Freedom Center reporting with really crucial work from Powerline that made the whole thing possible) local politicians and the media rushed to claim that Somalis provide enormous benefits and practically saved the state singlehandedly.

Recent stories claim that Somalis “pay about $67 million in state and local taxes.” That’s great.

Recent media stories also say that there are around 100,000 Somalis in the area. So that comes out to around $670 bucks per Somali. That would cover about two weeks for their kids in public school. Or 3 months or so of food stamps.

The average state tax burden is over $8,000. Somalis pay less than 10% of that. And they’re responsible for much of that tax burden through massive overuse of welfare to such an extent that the mere term ‘fraud’ is like calling the Atlantic Ocean a lake.

We’ve got $250 million in food fraud, $1 billion in autism fraud, millions more in homeless housing, eldercare, daycare and other frauds that we’re hardly even bothering to talk about because any Somali fraud that isn’t in the nine figures is just pocket money.

What does $1.25 billion divided by 100,000 come out to? A $12,500 net loss for every single Somali.

But sure, let’s deduct that $67 million that they pay in taxes (and receive back a thousandfold in earned income credits) from $1.25 billion and we end up with $1.18 billion which brings down the individual Somali fraud burden to $11,800.

Let’s just round it down, for the sake of equity, to $10,000 per Somali. And ask if it’s really worth a $10,000 loss per person to resettle ‘refugees’ from one of the worst countries in the world.

(And that’s without even discussing how Rep. Ilhan Omar’s net worth is listed at $30 million.)

Omar has her husband to thank for catapulting her to multimillionaire status in 2024. Mynett’s California-based winery eStCru LLC and venture capital firm Rose Lake Capital both achieved remarkable financial turnarounds in 2024. At the end of 2023, Mynett’s combined stake in both companies was worth no more than $51,000, the firms had less than $700 across all their bank accounts, and Mynett and his business partner, former DNC adviser Will Hailer, were saddled with lawsuits from investors claiming they defrauded them out of millions of dollars. But by the end of 2024, Mynett’s combined stake in the two firms ballooned to anywhere between $6 and $30 million, and he and Hailer settled the lawsuits with cash settlements, the Washington Free Beacon has learned.

I know Gov. Tim Walz (who wants you to know that he is in no way retarded and knew exactly what he was doing when he allowed $1.25 billion in Somali fraud to happen on his watch) insists that Somalis have contributed so much, but if it came to it, it would probably be cheaper for us to marry our own brothers than pay Omar to do it for us.
