Homan defends Trump’s ‘third world’ policy over vetting limitations

Border czar Tom Homan stood by President Donald Trump’s recent announcement to pause migration from “third-world” countries.

After an Afghan national allegedly opened fire on two National Guard soldiers in Washington, D.C., and subsequently killed Sara Beckstrom, 20, Trump announced he would pause migration from as many as 19 countries and deport foreign nationals “non-compatible with Western Civilization.”

Homan said Afghan migrants, like the alleged gunman in the attack on the National Guard members, Rahmanullah Lakanwal, entered the United States without so much as “a travel document or piece of identification” on Fox News’s Sunday Morning Futures

“We’re going to count on the people that run Afghanistan, the Taliban, to provide us any information on who the bad guys were or who the good guys are? Certainly not. And many people need to understand that most terrorists in this world, most of them, aren’t in any database,” Homan said.

“There’s no way to vet these people. You think El Salvador or Turkey or Sudan, any of these countries have the databases and system checks that we have? Do you think the government of China, Russia, Turkey, do you think they’re going to share that data with us, even if they did have it? There’s no way to clearly vet these people 100% that they’re safe to come to this country from these third-world nations,” Homan said.

Lakanwal was thoroughly vetted before entering the United States after he served with the CIA and was allowed to move to Washington state under the Biden administration’s Operation Allies Welcome. The migration operation, meant for Afghans who helped U.S. forces during the war following 9/11, was fiercely opposed by Homan at the time. According to Homan, the operation was “the biggest national security failure in the history of the nation.”

MARK KELLY SAYS TRUMP’S ‘THIRD WORLD’ MIGRATION PAUSE ABOUT KEEPING ‘BROWN PEOPLE’ OUT

“President Trump’s doing the right thing, reviewing every one of these people that came under the Biden administration. I really, truly think that most of them are going to end up being deported because we’re not going to be able to properly vet them,” Homan said.

When asked about which countries constituted “third-world” in light of Trump’s announcement, Immigration and Customs Enforcement referred the Washington Examiner to the 19 countries listed in Trump’s June executive order restricting the entry of foreign nationals from countries including Afghanistan, Cuba, Haiti, Iran, Somalia, and Venezuela, among others.
