‘I’m America first, America only’

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA), once a stalwart ally of President Donald Trump, is “OK” with falling out of favor with him, as she insists she is the one putting “America First.”

The president pulled his endorsement of Greene Friday and claimed earlier this week that she “lost her way” when asked about her recent breaks with the party over expiring Obamacare subsidies and the release of the Epstein files.

“I understand that wonderful, Conservative people are thinking about primarying Marjorie in her District of Georgia, that they too are fed up with her and her antics and, if the right person runs, they will have my Complete and Unyielding Support,” Trump wrote on social media. “She has gone Far Left, even doing The View, with their Low IQ Republican hating Anchors.”

Trump said all she does is “complain,” after he sent her a poll telling her to not run for higher office in Georgia after she had been mulling a run for governor or the Senate.

Greene told reporters on Wednesday she “100% hasn’t changed” and that she is “OK” with the president not liking her, as she was once a close ally.

“I’m America First, America only,” she reiterated to reporters.

The Georgia Republican has been making headlines in recent months, as she has split with Trump on some major issues, while also calling out House GOP leadership throughout the government shutdown

Greene has been a central figure in the Make America Great Again movement for years, becoming one of the most well-known members of Congress after several viral moments. One of her most well-known instances was during former President Joe Biden’s 2024 State of the Union address, where the congresswoman wore MAGA merchandise and heckled Biden during his speech.

She sharply criticized Speaker Mike Johnson (R-LA) throughout the shutdown for keeping the House in recess, and saying that Republicans “don’t have a plan” when it comes to healthcare. She claimed she “yelled at Mike Johnson” on one of the GOP weekly conference calls during the shutdown over the lack of the Republican “health insurance plan,” going as far as to say it is a “failure” of the party.

“Republicans never made a plan for that,” Greene said of the expiring Affordable Care Act tax credits during an appearance on The View.

Greene has received some sharp criticism from the Republican Party, including from the president, in response to her break from it on issues such as healthcare and the release of the files related to convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein

She responded on social media, saying, “I ran on holding both parties accountable and that’s exactly what I’m doing!! Washington has failed the American people on both sides of the aisle. Our government is broken and our voters are tired of empty promises.”

These tax credits were the No. 1 issue Democrats have been fighting for during the shutdown, which caused backlash from voters and even some lawmakers who have argued that Senate Democrats went through the entire government shutdown to end up with nothing. The short-term funding bill to reopen the government did not include any deal on the extension of the subsidies.

Senate Republicans promised to allow a vote next month on the expiring subsidies, with no guarantee that an extension will pass Congress or be signed into law. Johnson has not made any promises to bring up a bill to extend the subsidies and made clear last week that he was “not part of any negotiations.”

Greene does not agree with the Democrats’ healthcare plan, but believes her party needs to find a solution to the healthcare premiums that would rise if the subsidies expire at the end of the year.

“We need an off-ramp from Obamacare and an on-ramp to REAL healthcare freedom! That could be price transparency, competition, strong HSAs, and giving industries the power to negotiate lower costs,” she wrote on X. “This entire crisis is a Democrat-made mess. It’s time Republicans step up and actually fix it!!”

The congresswoman is also one of four Republicans to join all Democrats in signing a discharge petition to force Johnson to hold a vote on a bill for the full release of the Epstein files. The Epstein Files Transparency Act would require the Justice Department to make all the files publicly available, with victim protection. The speaker vowed to hold a vote next week after the petition hit its 218th signature last Wednesday.

Earlier this year, she proposed using the Speech and Debate Clause in the Constitution to expose the clients of Epstein‘s alleged sex trafficking ring. The clause, under Article 1, Section 6, of the Constitution, would give members of Congress immunity to read the client list aloud without ramifications in court for defamation.

“That was Marjorie’s innovation, was that that would be a good way to get the names out without endangering the survivors,” Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY), a sponsor of the Epstein bill, told the Washington Examiner in September.

House Oversight Democrats have released a series of files that mention Epstein and Trump’s relationship, ahead of the GOP in the committee, sparking frustration, as the Left has been pushing for a vote on Massie’s bill.

“I’ll work with anyone,” House Oversight ranking member Robert Garcia (D-CA) told the Washington Examiner on Wednesday. “I’m glad that Marjorie Taylor Greene has been vocal about the Epstein files, and we should get them released, and we’ll work with anyone that wants transparency.”

The Georgia Republican has also clashed with the president on foreign policy, as Trump has met with several world leaders, along with his focus on foreign wars. The president recently took a tour of Asia to meet with other leaders and has been heavily involved with negotiating the ceasefire between Israel and Gaza, working closely with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Greene has been skeptical of his focus on foreign policy as she remains “against foreign aid, foreign wars, and sending a single dollar to foreign countries.”

“I am against bringing any foreign leader that is a terrorist or oversees killing innocent people into our country and into the Oval Office,” she wrote on X, referring to his recent meeting with Syrian President Ahmed al Sharaa. “They do not deserve our support.”

Trump slammed her criticism on foreign policy in the social media post saying he is “stopping EIGHT WARS, rebuilding our Military, being RESPECTED by every Country in the World.”
